Time is so much more than money
“Time is money” is a noble saying meant to make us value time. It falls short.
Time is so much more than that.
Unlike money, time is not replenishable. And you never know how little you have.
Whatever money you’re getting paid for your time (and most of us must make that trade at some point), your time is always more valuable.
Yet we organize ourselves the other way around.
Imagine companies with business models that maximize time: do enough to provide a valuable service, pay everyone’s bills, and stop. Everyone have a blast with the rest of your year.
Imagine economies designed to maximize our collective free time, measured in gross domestic leisure and the strength of our connections to each other.
It’s not any more preposterous than the way we do things now, maximizing abstract currency and mostly unnecessary commodities at the expense of our lived experiences.
Time is so much more than money. Time is life.
